Field of Invention
[001] The present invention generally relates to screen panels for screening/separation and classification of minerals in the mining and mineral extraction industries and particularly to screen panels equipped with replaceable wear/functional sections. Invention history
[002] The screening panel system for screening decks, currently widely used by the mining industry, has replaced previous screening screens and coarse wire screening structures. These screening panels are known to be made of rubber or polyurethane with steel reinforcements. It is also known that such panels are manufactured by the method of hot vulcanization or casting. The panels are adapted to be fixed to the support structure of the screening screen machine by means of locking with screws. Panels can also be secured to the frame through an alternative method using a pin and a separate handle arrangement.
[003] A difficulty encountered in using these panels is that the entire panel needs to be replaced with a minimal defect in the opening zone due to opening cut or opening wear where the thickness of the screening area is reduced. This affects the strength of the panel opening area as well as the cutoff point. In a screen panel the edges are thicker than the sieving portion as at the edges, internal reinforcements are placed, which need to be protected against wear. However, the main wear portion is the thickness of the screening area i.e. in the opening zone which is the functional zone. Conventionally, the functional zone and the reinforcement zone are homogeneous and one-piece. Therefore, when replacing panels the customer will have to change the entire panel i.e the functional area or the wear area and the reinforcement area being one, homogeneous and integral. In addition, the integral nature of screen panels gives the overall weight handling inconveniences.
[004] Correspondingly, there has been a long felt need to develop improved screen panels for their application in the mining and mining industries, which feature replaceable wear section/functionals, and which feature light weight, are easy to much lower handling and manufacturing costs.
[005] The present invention meets the need mentioned for a long time felt.
[006] The present invention presents the solution that meets the need mentioned above for so long felt.
[007] Throughout the specification, including the claims, the terms "screen panel", "mining", "mining", "mineral", "iron ores", "abrasion resistant", "resistant to abrasion wear", "sections", "zones", "wear zone/section", "reinforcement zone/section" are to be interpreted in the broadest sense of the respective terms and includes all similar items in the field known by other terms, such as as may be clear to those skilled in the art. [034] The following text describes some preferred embodiments of the present invention, which are merely presented for the purpose of clarifying the invention, and not by way of any kind of limitation.
[035] It is traditionally known that mesh panels basically comprise a wear/functional section and a reinforcement section. These sections are also commonly called wear zones and reinforcement zones in the prior art screening in mining and mineral extraction industries. Wear zones include surface/sieving area with abrasion resistant openings. The reinforcement zone comprises the reinforcement structure, which is eventually mounted on the machine frame. Traditionally, the functional zones and reinforcement zones are homogeneous and integral with each other or, in other words, they are made in one piece. Thereby, after some time when the openings get worn out due to abrasion, the entire screen panel has to be replaced, which makes the whole operation costly and inconvenient.
[036] The present invention provides the innovative step of separating the functional zone from the reinforcement zone, thus allowing the non-wear reinforcement zone to remain as it is and reusable, while the functional zone is changed from the top whenever wear. Therefore, the customer replaces only the top portion of the panel and obviously therefore reduces the total cost and the whole sieving operation becomes quite convenient. Also, this reduces the overall weight of the panels. Thus, the present invention provides screen panels with replaceable functional zones for their application in the mining and mineral extraction industries.
[037] Ideally, the screening surface is made of any or a combination of mild steel, stainless steel, rubber and/or polyurethane with or without steel reinforcement.
[038] The complete panel is preferably made of vulcanized material, rubber and/or polyurethane, steel reinforcement bars being incorporated within it on the outer edges of said panel and extended by the inner area of said panel, thus providing support to said surface of sieving.
[039] The accompanying figure 1 illustrates a plan view of the sieving surface according to a preferred embodiment of the present invention. It shows the panel clamping frame 1', which is bolted/welded to the frame under the screening platform.
[040] The accompanying figure 2 illustrates a side view of the sieving surface shown in figure 1.
[041] The screening panels according to the present invention can be either rubber or polyurethane with steel reinforcements. The bottom part or structure of the panel is made by hot vulcanization or rubber or polyurethane casting.
[042] The accompanying figure 3 illustrates a pictorial view of the sieving area according to the present invention, which is the functional/wear section of the panel and is replaceable. It shows a sieving area made of polyurethane/rubber/steel. Figure 3 also shows a sectional view along line A-A.
[043] Accompanying figure 4(a) shows the screening area illustrated in figure 3 along with the frame, with the frame being the reinforcement section and not replaceable.
[044] Accompanying figure 4(b) shows a cross-sectional view of the panel illustrated in figure 4(a) along line A-A.
[045] The accompanying figure 5 illustrates the technology by which the screen panel with replaceable wear/functional section according to the present invention, is fixed to the machine structure. Attachment can be made by precise button-type fit applying the attachment means, as protected by applicant's patent number 231453. The replaceable functional section can be fitted to the non-replaceable reinforcement section of the screen panel, according to the present invention, applying the same technology. For this purpose, the male button-like portion has to be provided on the top functional part, while the corresponding female part must be in the reinforcement zone. Other types of fastening arrangements are also encompassed by the present invention, as explained below.
[046] The accompanying figure 6(a) illustrates a plan view of a conventional mesh panel that presents the wear zone integrated to the reinforcement zone and made in a single piece. This is particularly clear from the sectional view in accompanying figure 6(b) taken along line A-A in figure 6(a). It shows the reinforcement zone (1) and the wear zone (2) integral to each other.
[047] In contrast, the accompanying figure 7(a) illustrates a plan view of the screen panel according to the present invention, where the top wear zone (2) and the bottom reinforcement zone (1) are separate parts. This is particularly clear from the sectional view in accompanying figure 7(b) taken along line B-B in figure 7(a). It clearly shows that the wear zone (2) and the reinforcement zone (1) are separate. It also illustrates that through the precise button-type fit as described in the previous paragraph, the reinforcement section (1) is fixed onto the frame/angle (3).
[048] Accompanying figure 7(c) illustrates a sectional view along line A-A in figure 7(a). It illustrates how the two separate portions, i.e. the top and replaceable wear zone (2), is secured to the bottom reinforcement zone (1) by a precise button-type fit (4), as detailed in the last four lines of the previous paragraph . The top/wear part is provided with the precise fit (4), which fits into the cavity in the bottom/reinforcement part.
[049] Preferably, the wear zone has a thickness of 18 mm and the reinforcement zone has a thickness of 22 mm.
[050] Instead of the precise fit type arrangement, pin and tongue lock type fixing arrangement can be used to secure the two portions of the panel and to fit the panel to the machine frame. Alternatively, a button-type fastening arrangement can be used.
[051] Accompanying figure 8(a) shows a plan view of a screen panel according to the present invention, which features a replaceable top/wear part and a fixed bottom/reinforcement part in which the two parts are secured using a separate locking tab and pin arrangement. This is particularly clear from the cross-section in accompanying figure 8(b), taken along line A-A in figure 8(a). It illustrates pin and tongue lock-pin type fastening arrangement for securing the top/wear zone (2) to the bottom/reinforcement zone (1).
[052] Preferably, the thickness of the wear zone is 10 mm and the thickness of the reinforcement zone is 30 mm and more preferably 22 mm.
[053] The accompanying figure 9 illustrates another preferred embodiment in which the top/replaceable zone is divided into a top left part (5) and a top right part (6). Thereby, the screen panel comprises three portions, top left part, top right part and the gusset bottom part. The top part of course can also be divided into three or more parts. Thereby, the screen panel according to the present invention can be divided into several modular parts each of which can be replaced by the top, for a convenient, comfortable and perfect sieving operation, which is also economical. Although the mating arrangement between the top portion and the bottom portion has been shown in accompanying figure 9 as a precise mating of the type discussed above, it is understood that all fastening arrangements are possible.
[054] In all of the various embodiments of the present invention, as previously described, the openings of the removable sieving area preferably have a bell configuration, to avoid clogging of materials during the sieving operation.
[055] The method of manufacturing a screen panel in accordance with the present invention includes configuring a wear section that features a sieving surface made of materials as described herein and a reinforcement section as described herein and the formation of the wear section on said reinforcement section. The method further includes constructing the wear zone and reinforcement zone as separate units so that the wear section is replaceable from time to time to ensure proper functioning of the screening operation.
[056] In summary, the non-restrictive advantages of the screen panel according to the present invention can be summarized as follows: 1. The requirement to replace the entire panel can be avoided, thus reducing the operating and manufacturing cost of screen panels. 2. Screen panels feature light weight when constructing the replaceable top portion either in whole or in part. 3. The bell configuration of the sieving openings ensures non-clogging during the sieving operation. 4. Easy panel fitting to machine frame and easy adjustment between top and bottom portion are ensured. 5. Flexibility and longer lifespan are guaranteed.
[057] The present invention has been described with reference to some preferred drawings and embodiments, for purposes of understanding only and not by way of limitation, and the present invention includes all legitimate developments within the scope of what has been previously described herein and claimed in the appended claims.
